The rapid rise of drones on the battlefield has an equally powerful flip-side: a wave of development in counter-drone technologies to defend against UAVs launched by adversaries. Chaos Industries is one of the bigger startups in this space: the startup, based out of Southern California, is founded and run by veterans from defence tech companies like Raytheon and Epirus, firms that work in defence like Palantir, and intelligence services. To date, Chaos has released “soft-kill”, radar-based systems to detect and take down aerial systems. However, on the heels of raising close to $1 billion in multiple rounds in the last year, let’s see if it develops more radar technology or expands into counter-drone hardware, too. (A partnership with Forterra to develop systems could play into that.) IL
