After building the world’s largest drone cinematography service company, Brian Streem pivoted into defence tech, founding Vermeer in 2020. Vermeer’s core technology is a vision-based navigation system which replaces GPS — critical in the denied environments common on the Ukrainian front line. Multiple cameras operate with an Nvidia-powered computer running deep neural networks. The output matches live camera feeds to pre-stored 3D terrain databases, works day and night, and cannot be jammed nor spoofed because there is no signal emission. Streem claims to be the only US CEO who has permanently relocated to Ukraine and the startup is now backed by Tim Draper, who led its $10M Series A in 2025. Watch for Vermeer’s celestial navigation system, terminal guidance system integration, and more in 2026. LH
