Drone makers are now very switched on to the fact that their hardware needs to be able to operate in comms-denied environments, since electronic warfare is now part and parcel of battlefield airspace. That understanding is now trickling into other domains. Polar Mist is operating largely in stealth mode, but we do know something of the company’s focus: maritime autonomous systems that can work in comms-dark situations and be produced at scale. We flagged maritime as a key area for the year ahead and we think this is one to watch in that space. IL
