Poland is working on a domestic answer to Starlink, with Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk saying the first offers have already been collected and funding is in place to move the project forward.

Tomczyk said the initiative could become a “fundamental change” in how Poland approaches secure communications and satellite connectivity. He argued that Poland should not remain dependent on systems controlled from outside Europe.

“We cannot be dependent on some guy on this or that side of this or that ocean,” he said. According to Tomczyk, discussions are already under way at the planning stage, and the government has been working through the architecture for the sovereign connectivity solution.

Tomczyk said the project could begin with the military, then expand to the services and the state, and ultimately to a wider European use case. Tomczyk also said that “first offers” have already been gathered and that money for the programme has been secured.

The deputy minister suggested that a formal announcement could come in the coming months, although he did not give a precise timeline.

The comments came as Tomczyk also discussed the broader security situation, including support for Ukraine and the pressure on Kyiv’s energy infrastructure. He said the coming winter could be a decisive period in the war, particularly if Russia succeeds in cutting Ukraine off from Western support.

On the battlefield, he said, the front remains relatively stable, but air attacks, ballistic missiles and drone strikes continue to pose a serious challenge.

“This is really the time when you have to press the gas and help Ukraine,” he said.
