Nuclear energy is back on the table after years in the cold, with worries of nuclear risks now outweighed by the smaller carbon footprint and efficiency of the tech at a time when governments are looking for more self-sufficient forms of energy production. Proxima Fusion — which builds emission-free fusion power plants — is one of the startups reaping some of the spoils. The German startup in March 2026 signed a megawatt MOU with the German government worth potentially more than $1 billion.
