Positioned on NATO’s Eastern Flank, Poland is spending five percent on defence to build one of Europe’s largest armies. On April 15, Resilience Conference Warsaw will bring the defence tech ecosystem to meet the Polish and Central European military, political stakeholders, primes, defence tech investors, and startups.

Resilience Conference Warsaw will look at the opportunities, challenges, and lessons from arming the Eastern Flank, ensuring that the wider defence tech ecosystem is connected to the key people in this important region.

This will be the most significant defence tech event run in Warsaw, with Resilience Media working closely with leading local investors to ensure thought leaders, founders, and investors are coordinated around defending NATO’s Eastern Flank.

We will announce more speakers in the coming weeks. We look forward to seeing you at Resilience Conference Warsaw. Register here.

Without further ado, announcing two of our speakers:

Klaus Hommels, Founder and Chairman of Lakestar

Klaus Hommels is one of Europe’s leading business angels and venture capitalists. He is also a prominent voice in the European tech ecosystem, advocating for greater sovereignty in times of digital transformation. Repeatedly recognised as one of Europe’s top venture capital investors, Klaus has backed many of the sector’s most influential companies. He was an early investor in Skype, King, Facebook, Spotify, Airbnb, Revolut, Klarna, SumUp, Zoom, Coinbase, Isar Aerospace, Helsing, and Neko Health. He founded Lakestar in 2012 after managing his own venture capital firm, Hommels Holding.

As a passionate advocate for European technology and for digital and technological sovereignty, Klaus regularly engages with politicians, regulators, and corporates to ensure European innovation and capital flows are firmly placed on the global agenda.

Klaus currently serves as Chairman of the NATO Innovation Fund’s (NIF) Geopolitical and Strategic Advisory Council, having previously chaired the NATO Innovation Fund itself from March 2023 to September 2025. He is a founding member of think tank initiatives such as the Internet Economy Foundation and the European Center for Digital Competitiveness in Berlin. In addition, he sits on the Innovation Board of the Munich Security Conference and served on Henkel’s Digital Advisory Board (2018–2025). He was also a member of the UK Capital Markets Industry Taskforce, advising the Chancellor of the Exchequer under the leadership of the London Stock Exchange Group. From July 2022 to June 2023, Klaus was Chair of Invest Europe, the world’s largest association of private capital. Beyond his professional roles, he is actively engaged with Ashoka, supporting entrepreneurs who drive innovations for the benefit of society.

Klaus began his career at Bertelsmann before joining AOL Germany in 1995 as a board member. He later became a Venture Partner at Benchmark Capital Europe. He earned his PhD in Finance from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland.

Jan-Hendrik Boelens, Founder and CEO of Alpine Eagle

Jan-Hendrik Boelens is a technical founder and aerospace expert with 15+ years of experience developing helicopters, electric VTOL aircraft, and advanced drone systems. Since 2023, he is the Founder & CEO of Alpine Eagle GmbH, a European defense-tech startup developing AI-powered counter-UAS systems (Air-to-Air Drone Defense).

In leadership roles at Airbus, Volocopter, and Quantum-Systems, he has established himself as a CTO and manager in avionics, electrical systems, and autonomous flight. Boelens brings a powerful combination of deep aerospace technology expertise, startup founding experience, and strategic leadership—ideal for executive roles in aerospace, drone technology, and the defense industry.
